- GenoMik
GenoMik - genome research on microorganisms is a program for the study of the
genome of selectedmicroorganisms . It is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research ("Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung"BMBF ) and was set up in 2001. Its first funding phase ran until 2004 and the second phase until 2006.Aims
The aim of the project is to promote
genome research ofmicro-organism s and to support and coordinate the efforts of experts in this research field. It is based on three sub-programs:
#The competence network
Würzburg entitled "genome research onpathogen ic bacteria", coordinated by Professor Werner Goebel.
#The competence networkGöttingen entitled "genome research onbacteria for the analysis of the biodiversity of bacteria and their use for the development of new production procedures", coordinated by Gerhard Gottschalk.
#The competence networkBielefeld entitled "genome research on bacteria relevant foragriculture ,environmental protection andbiotechnology ", coordinated by Prof. Alfred Pühler. All competence networks are joint projects of industrial and academic research groups, led by
university institutions.Follow-up
The follow-up program GenoMik-Plus started in summer 2006 with a renewed three-year funding phase in order to conduct further analysis of the genome sequences analysed in GenoMik. For this again three networks are being funded:
#The Würzburg net entitled "PathoGenoMik-Plus" and coordinated by [http://www.dghm.org/red/vorstand/index.html?TextID=836 Prof. Matthias Frosch] .
#The Göttingen net, entitled "BiotechGenoMik-Plus" and coordinated by [http://wwwuser.gwdg.de/~appmibio/research_liebl.html Wolfgang Liebl] .
#The Bielefeld net, entitled "AgriUmweltGenoMik-Plus" and coordinated by [http://www.genetik.uni-bielefeld.de Prof. Alfred Pühler] .In addition to these the three networks which are funded by the BMBF, there is additional support for setting up a IT platform for microbiological genome research which will be accessible to all participants.
The three modules of the platform are registered in Bielefeld, Göttingen and
Greifswald and offer technical support for genomesequencing (Göttingen),bioinformatics (Bielefeld) andproteome research (Greifswald).External links
