April 10 ,1925 ) is a former professionalwrestler and wrestling promoter, of Italian origin. He ranInternational Championship Wrestling for a number of years, holding cards in Tennessee, Kentucky and Arkansas. He is most noted for being the father of "Macho Man" Randy Savage and "Leaping" Lanny Poffo/The Genius. He also held the world sit up record for several years, his total being 6,033 in one sitting.Career
Poffo started wrestling in 1948. He sometimes wrestled as The Masked Miser.
He formed a heel tag team with
Chris Markoff , called "TheDevil's Duo " and "The Graduates."He made a few appearances in WCW in 1995 managing his son,
Randy Savage ,Arn Anderson , and Vader. He was once attacked by "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, who put him in a Figure 4 leg lock.In 1995, he was inducted into the WCW Hall of Fame. Though his wrestling promotion was successful for years, some speculate that he was inducted as a favor to his son,
