Hank and Buck Strickland are eating in a fancy restaurant, discussing putting Hank in charge of the annual Strickland Family Fun Day
picnic , which Buck is giving to his employees instead of health insurance. Just as they are done ordering, a waiter announces the performance of "John Redcorn and his band, Big Mountain Fudgecake". Hank is astonished that John Redcorn is in his own band now, which includes Lucky and Alvin. Hank and Buck end up leaving due to the very loudrock music . As Hank is leaving, John Redcorn asks him to let Fudgecake play the Family Days picnic. Although Hank really doesn't want them to be the live entertainment at the picnic, he acts like he'll think about it.Redcorn later plays a demo tape at
Strickland Propane , terrifying some of the customers. Hank comes right out and tells Redcorn that he doesn't want him to play at the picnic, but consoles Redcorn by telling him to "bet on yourself". Later, as Hank is driving down the road talking to Joe Jack, he encounters a road block. John Redcorn announces that he is "betting on himself" and using the land he won to open acasino as a permanent place for his band. Alarmed, Hank doesn't want to take credit for this.Dale declares that he is the new manager of Big Mountain Fudgecake. Redcorn is approached by the "Tribal Gaming Commission", mostly composed of white men with dubious Native heritage, who agree to help finance his casino. With no other options for music, Hank is forced to hire a children's
clown named "Bloomers" for the live entertainment at the picnic. Hank has to go to the casino grand opening with Mr. Strickland, to make sure that he doesn't gamble all of the picnic money away on the tables. As John Redcorn and his band start to play their first song, police officers come in and shut the establishment down, as gaming on Indian land is illegal inTexas . Everyone leaves before the band gets to play, and the Gaming Commission forces Redcorn to use his land as a toxic waste dump in order to avoid legal action over his loan.Dale hires his henchman Octavio to kidnap Bloomers, forcing Hank to call upon John Redcorn for entertainment. The other two members of the band are upset because this is a family event, and "the Cake don't sell out". John Redcorn, now alone, comes and re-writes some of his songs so they are suitable for children. After the Strickland Propane Family Fun Day Picnic is a success because of him, John Redcorn re-opens his old casino as a place where both kids and adults can have fun and play games for prizes (but not money). Although Big Mountain Fudgecake never reforms, Redcorn becomes a success, while Lucky and Alvin are reduced to playing in a seedy bar.
