Patrick 'Pat' Loughrey is the Director of
BBC Nations and Regions .He was born in 1955 in
County Donegal . He studied at theUniversity of Ulster (BA Hons History 1976),Queen's University, Belfast andTrent University inOntario ,Canada . He worked as a teacher, then did freelance broadcasting forUTV , the BBC, and RTÉ, before joining the BBC in 1984 as an education producer. In 1988, he became Head of Educational Broadcasting for BBC Northern Ireland. He became Head of Programmes in 1991.He was the Controller of
BBC Northern Ireland from 1994-2000. He moved to BBC Nations and Regions in May 2000, giving him responsibility over the BBC's services in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and English regional broadcasting. He is the project leader for the BBC North Project inSalford Quays inManchester .In January 1988, he published a book called "The People of Ireland", a companion the BBC series. He received the University of Ulster's Distinguished Graduate Award in 1997.
