John Pickard (American actor)

John Pickard (American actor)

John Pickard (June 25, 1913 - August 4, 1993) appeared in numerous movies throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He tried out for the role of Matt Dillon in the new "Gunsmoke" series (1955) and had it almost locked up before flubbing a romantic scene with Amanda Blake. "Gunsmoke" producer Charles Marquis Warren later said Pickard never knew how close he came to immortality. May be the only actor to be on both ends of the whip when he was whipped in "Hellgate" (1952) and did the whipping in "Badlands of Montana" (1957)

He was killed at a family picnic by a bull who had gotten loose.
