Binali Yıldırım (b. 1955,
Erzincan ) is the Minister of Transport ofTurkey and a Member of Parliament forIstanbul of the ruling AKP.As transport minister he has had to deal with a number of issues including:
* TheIstanbul -Ankara fast train project, which he sponsored but which collapsed after the tragic derailment of a train on one of the first journeys. Calls for his resignation followed this incident. He did not resign.
* Questions as to how his 24-year-old son Erkan was able to obtain credit to buy a ship from a companySantour , which then signed a deal to lease boats to the state-owned shipping company controlled by Yıldırım's ministry.
