German Wallace College was a German
Methodist institution ofhigher education inBerea, Ohio . It was organized 7 June 1864. The Rev. Jacob Rothweiler of the Central GermanAnnual Conference of theMethodist Episcopal Church (and aprofessor at Baldwin University) was appointed 3 June 1863 to inaugurate the movement to establish this college.Mr. John Baldwin presented the so-called Baldwin Hall and considerable land to begin this
college . German Wallace was established very near Baldwin University. The two institutions worked harmoniously together from the start. For instance, the students from either were entitled to all the privileges of the others. Indeed, the two colleges ultimately merged, to formBaldwin Wallace College .The Rev. William Nast, D.D., was for many years the "
Honorary President " of the college. Early "de facto " presidents included the Rev. Jacob Rothweiler, the Rev. Frederick Schuler, and P.F. Schneider.References
