Brian MaryanskyJets to Brazil was an American
rock band formed in 1997. It was founded byBlake Schwarzenbach , former frontman of Jawbreaker. When Blake relocated toBrooklyn, New York , after Jawbreaker had disbanded, he reunited with friend Jeremy Chatelain, and the two began working on four-track recordings aided bydrum machine s. This lasted until formerTexas Is the Reason drummer Chris Daly joined the band. Daly came up with the name "Jets to Brazil," and the band joinedJade Tree Records in1997 . The origin of the band's name comes from a poster in the film "Breakfast at Tiffany's ", a film well-liked among the band members. The group's first album, "
Orange Rhyming Dictionary ", was released onJade Tree Records in1998 . They did extensive touring following its release with bands likeThe Promise Ring . The band followed up the success of "Orange Rhyming Dictionary " with "Four Cornered Night " in2000 . "Four Cornered Night " featured newguitarist Brian Maryansky, formerly of the bandThe Van Pelt . This shift allowed Blake to become the pianist for the band. In 2002, Jets to Brazil launched their third—and what was to be final—album, "Perfecting Loneliness ". By fall of 2003, the band had broken up for unspecified reasons.Blake now teaches English at Hunter College in New York and is pursuing a Ph.D. in English Literature. Chris has reunited
Texas Is The Reason for two shows at NYC's Irving Plaza in November 2006, with no actual future plans to reunite."Sweet Avenue," the final track of
Orange Rhyming Dictionary , is often attributed toDamien Rice due to misattribution on peer-to-peer networks.Discography
