Welsh Affairs Select Committee

Welsh Affairs Select Committee

The Welsh Affairs Select Committee was set up by the British House of Commons. It was set up to examine matters falling under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of State for Wales.

The Committee is nominated by the House at the beginning of each Parliament for the duration of the Parliament, although individual Members of Parliament (MPs) may be discharged or added during the course of the Parliament. The membership reflects the party strengths in the House as a whole. Thus, in the present Parliament, there are six Labour Members, three Conservative Members, one Liberal Democrat and one Plaid Cymru Member. The Committee appoints one of its number as Chairman.
