- Ergene Khatun
Ergene Khatun (also spelled Orqina or Orghana) was the queen of
Chagatai Khanate . She was fromMongol Oirat tribe.She became the head of the "ulus" of the Chagatai Khanate upon the death of her husband
Qara Hülëgü in 1252. Until 1261 she ruled as regent for her sonMubarak Shah . In 1262,Alghu invaded the Chagatai Khanate, and Ergene became involved in the conflict betweenArigh Böke andKhubilai . Sent toSamarkand by Arigh Böke to make peace with Alghu, she married him instead. After Alghu's death in 1265 or 1266, she managed to place her and Qara Hülegü's sonMubarak Shah on the throne, but only for some months - he was disposed byBaraq in 1266.
