Homestead (buildings)

Homestead (buildings)

A homestead is either a single building, or collection buildings grouped together on a large agricultural holding - such as a ranch, station or a large agricultural operation of some other designation. [ John Taylor (1995) "Methodology for identification and assessment of rural homesteads and farm houses in the Great Southern area of Western Australia" for the Royal Institute of Architects (W.A.) and the Heritage Council of W.A. "August 1995".]

Kunderang Homestead is a noted historical homestead set on the banks of the Macleay River 112 kilometres east of Armidale, New South Wales. This historic homestead was built in the 1890s, of solid Australian Red Cedar (Toona ciliata) throughout and was once the centre of a beef cattle grazing empire. The homestead has now been carefully restored by the National Parks and Wildlife Service to provide comfortable and modern accommodation. Access to the isolated homestead is along steep gravel roads and a 4WD is required, along with a permit.
