- SSULI
The Special Sensor Ultraviolet Limb Imager (SSULI) is an imaging spectrometer that is used to observe the earth's
ionosphere andthermosphere . The SSULI instruments operate by observing the natural airglow of the upper atmosphere in the far and extremeultraviolet to determine the atmospheric constituents, density, and vertical limb profiles. These instruments ( a total of five) were designed and built by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory are part of the Air Force Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) block of 5D3 satellites.External links
