Sir Richard Tetley Glazebrook KCB, KCVO FRS (1854–December 16 ,1935 ) was aphysicist born inLiverpool . He was educated atDulwich College andTrinity College, Cambridge . Physical Society from 1903 to 1905. His work dealt primarily with aviation study but other branches of physics also interested him. He was the first president of theInstitute of Physics after the Physical Society adopted this new name.He was the first director of the National Physical Laboratory at
Teddington from 1899 to 1919; under his directorship it grew from a few huts on a marshy plain to a national service. For his work there he was knighted in 1917. He was also made a Companion of the Bath in 1910, Knight Commander of the Bath in 1920 and a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1934.He married Frances Gertrude Atkinson of
Leeds in 1883; they had a son and three daughters. He died atLimpsfield ,Surrey .Works
