The Roquefeuil family was a French noble house. It appeared around 900 as an offshoot of the House of Barcelona, Spain, who were kings of Aragon. At this time they controlled vast territories in the
Languedoc (southern France) under various noble titles.The heiress
Adelais de Roquefeuil marriedBernard d'Anduze (1129). The Anduze was another powerful family which also coined money. However the son of Adelais and Bernard, Arnaud, "Contor de Nant" maintained the name of Roquefeuil. He, his brother Raymond and their descendants fought in the wars of theMiddle Ages : theCathar Crusade ,Seventh Crusade and theHundred Years War .From Arnaud were descended the Lords of
Versols , inAveyron , and ofSaint-Etienne de Gourgas . Their best known member wasGuillaume de Roquefeuil who signed the Treaty of Corbeil on behalf of KingJames I of Aragon in 1258.That branch continued to be located in the Languedoc as landowners and revolutionaries, and has mainly produced, since the
French Revolution , medical doctors and lawyers.The related branch of the
