Philipp Otto Naegele is a
United States -basedviolin ist.He was born in January, 1928, the youngest son of the well-known painter Reinhold Naegele in
Stuttgart ,Germany . After emigration to escape from the Hitler-regime, the family moved toNew York where Naegele studied violin privately and attended the High School of Music and Arts, Queens College, and finally completed a doctorate in musicology atPrinceton University inNew Jersey . As aFulbright Scholar , Naegele attended theVienna Academy of Music for an additional year of study with Franz Samohyl.Professional Stages
*Violinist with the Cleveland Orchestra under George Szell from 1956 to 1964;
*since 1964 Professor of Violin at Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts.
*Naegele has been active as violinist and violist at the Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont continuously since its founding in 1950 by Adolf Busch and Rudolf Serkin.
*He has played concerts widely in Europe and America with the "Cantilena Piano Quartet", the "Vegh String Quartet", the "Boccherini Ensemble" and many "Music from Marlboro" touring groups.
*He has made many recordings forColumbia Records , Marlboro Recording Society, Da Camera, RBM, Arabesque, Nonesuch, Spectrum and Musical Heritage Society.
