Houssart is a family name of Huguenot refugees fleeing persecution from France during the Reformation.

Currently living in the Netherlands, in parts of London and the South East of England, with known families as widespread as Quebec and USA.

Emilie Houssart - Born in Britain in 1980, Emilie Houssart is a Dutch painter who grew up in Norfolk. Robert Houssart - is Assistant Director of Music at Gloucester Cathedral. His duties in this post include playing daily at the sung services, assisting in the training of the Cathedral choir and running the Cathedral's relatively new Youth choir. He is also Musical Director of the St Cecilia Singers, and accompanist to the Gloucester Choral Society and the Three Choirs Festival Chorus. Robert was born in Haarlem, Holland in 1979. He was educated as a chorister at Norwich Cathedral, before taking up the Organ Studentship of St John's College, Cambridge in 1997. As a freelance musician Robert is in much demand. Recent concerts have taken him to St Paul's, Bristol, Gloucester, Manchester and Westminster Cathedrals; Bath and Westminster Abbeys; St John's Smith Square; St John's College Cambridge and the Battle Festival as well as engagements in France and in Jersey. He has also performed Poulenc's Organ Concerto three times this year. He is increasingly known as an improviser, both liturgically and in concert; he improvised at a lecture in the Royal Festival Hall last April, and his improvised recital at Westminster Abbey during Lent last year was met with great acclaim. In July 2003 Robert won First Prize in Improvisation at the St Alban's International Organ Competition, and he was also a prizewinner at the RCO Performer of the Year 2002, performing with the BBC Philharmonic, and at the EADS Saarbruecken Improvisation Competition in March 2003. Future plans include recitals in Edinburgh, Gloucester, London, Ludlow, Norwich, Tewkesbury and Warrington. He studies organ with Nicolas Kynaston in London. He also collaborates frequently with choirs and with soloists, both as accompanist and conductor.
