Floris Adriaan, Baron van Hall (born May 15, 1791 in
Amsterdam – died 29 march 1866 inThe Hague ) was an importantstatesman from the middle of the 19th century. He played an important role as representative of the Amsterdam trade and bankingsector and aspolitician .He studied law in
Amsterdam andLeiden , en became a lawyer in Amsterdam. He practised law until the King appointed him as successor toCornelis Felix van Maanen as Minister of Justice in 1842 and one and a half year later as Minister of Finance. Since 1849 was he member of the Second Chamber of the States General until in 1853 he succeededJohan Rudolf Thorbecke to form a new government. In 1856 King William II gave him the title of Baron. In 1860 he became once again chairman of the council of ministers. He rejected an offer for the appointment to Governor-General of the Dutch East-Indies.
