icupdate=Eddie O'Brien (born 1945) is a former Irish sportsperson. He played
hurling with Cork in the 1970s.Eddie O'Brien was born in Passage West in East Cork in 1945. A talented player of
Gaelic games he soon found his way onto the Cork hurling team where he won anAll-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship medal in 1966. His skill was quickly noted and he soon made his way onto the senior team. O'Brien won his first senior Munster Championship medal in 1969, however, the team lost the All-Ireland to Kilkenny. A second Munster medal followed in 1970 and once agin the team qaulified for the All-Ireland final against Wexford. On the night before the final is has been said that O'Brien sneaked away from the hotel where his team mates were staying and went to a pub inDún Laoghaire where he drank nine pints ofGuinness . This didn't affect his impact on the game the following day as he scored ahat-trick of goals. To date O'Brien is the only player of the modern game to do so. In 1972 O'Brien quit hurling and emigrated to theUnited States where he still lives. After a highly successful career in corporate security, Eddie retired in 2007. He now divides his time between his family home in Queens and his holiday homes in Northern New Jersey and Florida. He is active in his church parish as well as beautifying his neighborhood. He remains in excellent physical condition and enjoys biking, swimming, nature walks and golf, but fishing is his real passion. Even in his sixties, he remains indefatigable, with more energy and drive than many a man half his age.
