Haven for Justice

Haven for Justice

The Regional Network on Child Protection (RENOCP), Kenya, wishes to build a Haven for Justice which will be a centre of excellence for dealing with the needs of traumatised girls and women. It will provide a shelter for 40 to 60 girls and women giving them between 6 to 9 months to recover. This length of time is essential if full recovery is to be made. The approach will be three pronged:

*Mental scars will be treated by provision of counselling and psychiatric help, with access to quiet areas where girls and women can come to terms with what has happened to them.

*The physical side will be dealt with in a health facility. Girls with fistulas will be treated within the institution. Physiotherapy will also be a part of the medical component. Information about female health issues including HIV and sexually transmitted diseases will be included as part of the learning process.

*The centre will work in partnership with organizations offering legal aid to support redress and access to justice.

RENOCP envisages that the "Haven for Justice" will be a centre of excellence and model for a holistic and one stop centre for survivors of violence against girls and women in Africa.
