JD Stuart (
February 6 1973 -June 16 1996 ) was the original bass player for36 Crazyfists John-David "J-D" Stuart was born in
Oakland CA onFebruary 6 1973 . He moved toFreeland, Washington as an infant, and came toAlaska in 1982 when his family moved toAdak Naval Base in theAleutian Islands . Stuart bought his first guitar in 1984 and switched to bass guitar in 1986 after his family moved toAnchorage, Alaska . He was in numerous bands from 1986 until the time of his death in June of 1996, and was recognized as an extraordinarily talented musician with a unique playing style that was widely imitated by musicians in other local bands.Stuart was a founding member of his last band, 36 Crazyfists, and co-wrote much of the original music. He was on stage for the well-received performance by his band on
June 13 ,1996 when they opened for Primus, and stole the show.Stuart was killed by a drunk driver onJune 16 ,1996 as he was riding home from the celebration party some friends held for the band. He was 23 years old, a graduate of Dimond High School in Anchorage, Alaska, and a student at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. He was engaged to Brandy Smith.
