441 Tactical Fighter Squadron (abbreviated 441 TFS) was a fighter squadron of the
Canadian Forces ' and theRoyal Canadian Air Force . It was most recently located at 4 Wing Cold Lake, operating theCF-18 Hornet .History
Absorbing 125 Squadron, 441 Squadron was formed on
April 20 ,1942 inDigby ,England . They had been based in England, France, and Belgium throughoutWorld War II . When they returned to England they were disbanded onAugust 7 ,1945 . 441 Squadron reformed at RCAF Station St. Hubert onMarch 1 ,1951 and went to 1 wingRAF North Luffenham onFebruary 13 ,1952 . They then went to 3 wing Zweibrucken onDecember 21 ,1954 . They were deactivated onSeptember 1 ,1963 in Marville, and then reactivated as 441 Strike/Attack squadron onSeptember 15 ,1963 , then moved with 1 wing to Lahr in April 1967. In 1971 the squadron moved toCFB Baden-Soellingen and changed its name to 441 Tactical Fighter Squadron. They disbanded again in1986 and then finally reformed at 4 wing Cold Lake onJune 26 ,1986 where they were stationed in Hangar 3.On
July 6 ,2006 , 441 Squadron was once again stood down, and its crew amalgamating with 416 Tactical Fighter Squadron at CFB Cold Lake and re-formed as 409 Tactical Fighter Squadron. The squadron's colours and Battle Honours were placed inSydney, Nova Scotia , where it first operated.External links
