The company was founded in
Glasgow in 1860 by William A. Robertson. The Edrington Group bought Highland Distilleries for £601 million in 1999.Origin of Name
The Robertson sisters established The Robertson Trust, a charitable trust, in May 1961. [ [http://www.therobertsontrust.org.uk/ The Robertson Trust] ] The Misses Elspeth, Agnes, and Ethel had inherited from their father William the controlling interest in Robertson & Baxter and Clyde Bonding Company. The business was renamed Edrington after a farm next to their estate in the Scottish Borders. Today The Edrington Group is wholly owned by the Trust. The Trust gave a record £7.4 million to charitable causes last year.
In the
