Sheikh Faydh mosque was an ancient
Sunni mosque inMashhad ,Iran , one of the mainShi'ite centers of the world. The government ofIslamic Republic of Iran could not tolerate the continued existence of this mosque in the city and demolished it in 1993, under the supervision of the revolutionary guard, who also demolished adjoining centers which were used as guest houses andKoran memorization centers. The demolition orders came fromKhameni personally, the present spiritual leader of Iran. The demolition of this mosque occurred immediately after the government sponsored demonstrations against the demolition of theBabri Mosque inIndia by theHindus .On
