Veronika Hagen is an
Austria n violist.Born in
Salzburg , she began to learn music at the age of six with her father, who was at that timeconcertmaster of theMozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg . She then continued her studies at the Musik Hochschule of Salzburg with ProfessorHelmut Zehetmair and at the Musik Hochschule ofHanover with ProfessorHatto Beyerle . During her studies she won several prizes, including theBudapest International Viola Competition in 1984.Hagen is a founding member of the
Hagen Quartet , along with her siblings Lukas, Angelika (later replaced byRainer Schmidt ) and Clemens. The quartet has performed across the world.She has made a number of recordings for the
Deutsche Grammophon label, including the BrahmsSonata s with the pianistPaul Gulda in 1997 and Mozart's Concertante with the violinistAugustin Dumay and the Salzburg Camerata. As well as her activity as a soloist, she has performed with other leading musicians, includingElena Bashkirova ,Joshua Bell ,Gérard Caussé ,Ivry Gitlis ,Paul Gulda ,Tatjana Grindenko ,Steven Isserlis ,Gidon Kremer ,Alexander Lonquich andHeinrich Schiff . She has also played at many international music festivals, and has performed with orchestras such as theTokyo Symphony Orchestra andOrchestre de la Suisse Romande .Hagen plays a Giovanni Paolo Magini (Brescia) Viola from the collection of the National Bank of Austria.
