Game Spirit Chase

The Game Spirit Chase is a Grade 2 National Hunt chase in the United Kingdom open to horses which are five-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 2 miles and 1 furlong (3,420 metres) at Newbury Racecourse, and it takes place annually in February. There are thirteen fences to be jumped in the race.

It is named in honour of Game Spirit, a steeplechaser who was owned by the Queen Mother. This horse won 21 races during the 1970s and also finished third in the 1974 Cheltenham Gold Cup. He collapsed and died after racing at Newbury in March 1977.

Before 1992 the Game Spirit Chase was run as a limited handicap chase. Prior to 1993 it was run over a distance of 2 miles and 160 yards (3,365 metres).
