Andrew S. Brown

Andrew Brown was responsible for introducing a number of notable changes for younger members of the British Computer Society. In 2003 he was elected the 14th Chairman [http://www.bcs.org/server.php?show=ConWebDoc.12307] of the British Computer Society Young Professionals Group, a group which provides representation and support to younger members of the IT profession. Today the group is one of the largest (and arguably one of the most influential young professionals groups in the UK), with over 20,000 members [http://www.bcs.org/server.php?show=nav.9223] .

Brown has been a member of the British Computer Society's Advisory Council since 2003 and served as an elected trustee of the BCS from 2006 until 2008.

Through his volunteer role with the BCS, Brown was a regular speaker at events involving young professionals and often speaks at UK universities and colleges and has spoken at London's Royal Society.

Brown's career has been spread across various countries, working on a variety of technical and managerial roles across Europe and Australasia for firms such as British Digital Broadcasting and ITV Digital, where notably he was involved in the access systems that controlled the world's first digital terrestrial TV network and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). In 2001, Brown became a Director with the Toorak Consulting Group, an emerging technologies firm he co-founded with a former university colleague from Brunel University.
