- Edelweiss (band)
Edelweiss was an Austrian
Electronica /Dance band. The act consisted of remixersMartin Gletschermayer ,Walter Werzowa andMatthias Schweger .Background
The group had two hit singles:
* "Bring me Edelweiss" in1988 /1989 (Vocals by Maria Mathis);
* "Starship Edelweiss" in1992 from the album "Wonderful World of Edelweiss".The band used a lot of humour and sexually suggestive lyrics in its music. The humour was targeted at Austrian ski resorts and
yodeling , and in the second song at the TV-seriesStar Trek . The music video of "Starship Edelweiss" was based on the Star Trek Theme song, and part of the melody of "Bring me Edelweiss" was taken fromABBA 's " SOS". Also, two melody lines are borrowed from Indeep's "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life."Influences
A good part of Edelweiss' music consists of electronica, while their style has been branded as "pop" [] and "Eurotrash" [
The Manual ] . They reached a Europe-wide #1 position with their hit "Bring me Edelweiss", by supposedly following the instructions given inThe Manual , which was their main influence in getting their two hits. "Bring Me Edelweiss" sold five million copies worldwide.Bill Drummond , an author of "The Manual", mentioned that in the epilogue of the German release of "The Manual", which was originally published in 1989 (in English).ingles
