Götz Spielmann (born
January 11 ,1961 inWels ,Austria ) is an Austrian director and scriptwriter.He grew up in Vienna and after attending High School he went to Paris for some months. From 1980 to 1987 he was studying directing and script-writing in Vienna, at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. At the Viennese Filmacadamy
Harald Zusanek andAxel Corti were his teachers.
After making some short films and his diploma with "Vergiss Sneider!," with the drama "Erwin und Julia" he had his first great success. In 1993 with his Film "Der Nachbar" he won the "Vienna Filmaward" at theViennale , his film for television "Dieses naive Verlangen" was awarded with the "Erich-Neuberg-Preis" in 1994. 2006 he got the "Upper Austrian Landeskulturpreis" in the section “Film”.
Spielmann is one of the most important temporary Austrian Film directors. His films "The Stranger" and "Antares" were Austrian candidates for the Oscarnomination for the "Best Foreign Language Film". Antares was seen at more than thirty international Festivals.
He is im committee of the "Verband der Filmregisseure Österreichs". (the Association of the Austrian film directors)
In the Linzer Kammerspiele (Linz ,Upper Austria ) he had his debut performance as a director at a theatre with the play "Der einsame Weg", written byArthur Schnitzler . For the season 2006/2007 he wrote his first play for the theatre, the Landestheatre Linz, "Imperium", which was first released onJanuary 5 ,2007 at the Linzer Kammerspiele.Films (selection)
