Richard Morton Koster (1934) is a novelist best known for writing the
Tinieblas trilogy , about an imaginaryCentral America n country much likePanama , the author's home for many years. The style ismagic realism , reminiscent of that ofGarcia Marquez . Recurrent characters include the family of an assassinated dictator of Tinieblas, and there are many incidents of grim violence and raucous humor, often intertwined.John le Carré thanks him in "The Tailor of Panama " as "the distinguished American novelist, who with great generosity of spirit went out of his way to open doors for me, and provided me with much wise counsel".Partial Bibliography
