Berlin Nordbahnhof

Berlin Nordbahnhof is a railway station in the city of Berlin, Germany. It is served by the Berlin S-Bahn and local bus and tram lines.

History

In 1842 the station "Stettiner Bahnhof" and the railway line to the city of Szczecin ( _de. Stettin) opened, connecting Berlin with the holiday resorts on the Baltic Sea. As the number of passengers increased rapidly, it became one of Berlin's busiest railway termini and had to be enlarged several times. After World War II the station itself was within the Soviet sector, while the rail lines leading to it crossed the territories of West Berlin. Therefore it was closed by the GDR authorities in 1952 and finally demolished in 1962. The adjacent S-Bahn station remained unter the name of "Nordbahnhof".
