Vytautas the Great War Museum

Vytautas the Great War Museum ( _lt. Vytauto Didžiojo karo muziejus) is a museum in Kaunas, Lithuania. It was opened on 16 February 1936 and named after the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Vytautas. The museum displays a history of Lithuania and Kaunas from prehistoric times to the present day, as well as an immense collection of weapons through the ages and the tragic but complete wreckage of the plane "Lituanica", on which Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas had crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 1933.

A square with statues of Lithuanian national renaissance figures and ad the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Eternal flame are located in front of the museum. It was the main square where Lithuanian national holidays were celebrated in the times First Lithuanian Republic during the period when Kaunas had been the Temporary capital of Lithuania.

Museum shares the same building with M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum and is located in Vienybė Square. The museum and its surroundings is depicted on 20 litas banknotes.
