Reza Abdoh

Reza Abdoh (February 23 1963, in Tehran, Iran - May 12, 1995 in New York City) Iranian-born American director and playwright who shocked and amazed audiences with his work with the theater ensemble Dar a Luz of such revolutionary productions as "King Lear, Oedipus Rex," "Quotations from a Ruined City", "Footsteps in The Dark" (co-written with Frank Ambriz), " Simon Bocanegra", "Bogeyman", "The Law of Remains" and "Tight, Right, White;" works which confronted such issues as race, class, and AIDS, which claimed Abdoh's life at the age of 32. Abdoh also directed the experimental film "The Blind Owl". His theatrical masterpiece was "The Hip-Hop Waltz of Eurydice", staged at the Los Angeles Theatre Center in 1990. He is the subject of the book "Reza Abdoh" edited by Daniel Mufson; his papers are kept at the New York Public Library for the Performing Art [http://catnyp.nypl.org/record=b6577860] .
