Eccles Shorrock

Eccles Shorrock

Eccles Shorrock (originally known as Eccles Ashton) was born in Clitheroe in 1827. In the Shorrock family, Eccles was the second out of three generations. He was the nephew of the first Eccless Sharrock who owned a cotton mill in Darwen. When Eccles Ashton was adopted by his uncle, he removed his last name "Ashton" and later had a son whom he named Eccles Shorrock. Eccles Shorrock (the Second) was responsible for establishing the India Mill Chimney, which is considered today to be a landmark in Darwen.
