The Wakefield Observer is a weekly newspaper that is available to Wakefield residents. It is owned by townonline.com, which is a part of Herald Media.

Covering an array of topics, the Wakefield Observer has area news and sports coverage as well as special features that appear in all of the Community newspapers.

Criticism

Some of the main reasons why people prefer the Wakefield Item over the Observer is the fact that the Observer is simply a recap of all the news that has already been presented in the Item. For this reason, people feel that it is not necessary to purchase a paper that usually has lost its "evergreen effect" up to three or four days before it even comes out.

The Observer also isn't known to have that many columnists. Covering most of the news related articles is Gary Band, while the Sports are in Fred Forster's hands.
