Indigotv

iNDiGOTV is a live television program which focuses on viewer interaction via SMS messaging (text messaging) and User-Generated Content to allow viewers to interact with the shows hosts and guests during its live broadcasts. The shows’ focus lies in the 18 to 34 demographic interested in local up and coming artists as well as popular hot spots. iNDiGOTVs’ headquarters are based in New York City in the basement studios under Times Square. The shows are broadcast live from Studio C-7 underground Times Square.

History

iNDiGOTV was inspired by similar text messaging orientated shows started in Finland on MTV3 and later swept across Europe as popularity of text messaging interactivity increased. iNDiGOTV was formed by founder and CEO Peter Rautionma in 2005. Several pilot episodes were shot in the spring of 2006 before Indigo established its roots in studio C-7 underground Times Square and started season 1 in the fall of 2006.

Interactive Television

iNDiGOTV's mission statement is Live, Local, Interactive. They broadcast live with two hosts which focus on the local scene of New York City. Segments of local interest such as a 99 cent pizza places, popular music venues and revues on 16 bit video game systems are common. Local artists often appear to promote and distribute their work among the community. iNDiGOTV's claim to interactive television is due to the viewers’ ability to text message their opinions directly to the television screen, where they are displayed in real time. The hosts can see these messages and respond to comments made by the viewers. The second branch of user interaction is done through iNDiGOTV's website where viewers can upload their favorite video segments or music clips which can then be aired on television if they are requested.
