Ruth Picardie

Ruth Picardie

Ruth Nadine Picardie (b. Reading, Berkshire, England, 1 May 1964 – d. 22 September 1997) was a British journalist and editor. Her memoir of living with breast cancer, "Before I Say Goodbye" was published posthumously. She was the daughter of South African émigrés and read Social Anthropology at Cambridge University.

Work

Ruth Picardie worked as an editor and journalist for "The Guardian" and "The Independent" newspapers in the UK. She also contributed to other publications, such as "New Statesman". Her memoir of living with breast cancer, "Before I Say Goodbye", was culled from five columns written for the Observer's magazine Life, and from her personal correspondence. These were collected and edited by her husband, Matt Seaton and her sister, Justine Picardie.

Matt Seaton, himself a keen competitive cyclist, is the author of "The Escape Artist", which concentrates on his love of amateur cycling but also chronicles his wife's battle against breast cancer. [http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1841151041]

Family

Ruth Picardie and Matt Seaton had two children, twins Lola and Joseph.

The Lavender Trust

After her death, Ruth's sister Justine established the Lavender Trust in her memory. The Trust is focused on raising money and support for younger women with breast cancer.
