Photography career
Garry Fabian Miller is one of the most powerful and respected artists working in photography today. Fabian Miller initially established his reputation with landscapes in the mid seventies, including widely acclaimed depictions of sea and sky (the Sea Horizon series).
Since the mid 1980s Fabian Miller has made photographs without a camera or negatives, challenging perspectives of contemporary photography within fine art and advancing to become one its most important and progressive figures internationally. Fabian Miller explores the elements of light, time and colour in the camera-less images produced in his darkroom, and in his return to basics, the fundamentals of form and colour, he has continued to move his medium forward.
Publications
Fabian Miller has been the subject of several publications. A major monograph, Illumine, was published in 2005, featuring an extensive essay by Martin Barnes, Curator of Photography at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Other recent publications include Exposure in 2006, and Year One in 2007. Older books include Thoughts of a Night Sea (a collaboration with the poet Lavinia Greenlaw) and Tracing Light (with David Alan Mellor).
