Laura Abbot Schoffner (born in Kansas City, Kansas, U.S.), is an American writer of over a dozen romance novels as Laura Abbot (her maiden name), primarily in the Harlequin Superromance line.

Biography

Laura Abbot was born in Kansas City, Kansas, the eldest of three children. Her parents had tried for five years to have a child, and were thrilled when their daughter finally arrived, albeit during the Great Depression. Born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, cite web | last = | first = | coauthors = | title = Laura Abbot | work= | pages = | language = | publisher = Harlequin Superromance Authors | date = 2005 | url =http://superauthors.com/author.asp?ID=1 | accessdate = 2007-04-10] Abbot, a tomboy, spent a great deal of time with her grandmother, who expected her to change her behavior and become ladylike.

Abbot found college liberating, and worked hard to graduate in only three years. She became a teacher, and, for over twenty-five years taught eighth-and ninth-grade English. Abbot married a year after her college graduation with Mr. Schoffner, and had three children in the next ten years, before she and her husband divorced. She has since remarried, to a man with a daughter and custody of his orphaned nephew. Together they raised their combined five children, and now have thirteen grandchildren.

After Abbot retired from teaching, she began to write. She sold her first romance novel to Harlequin Enterprises in 1995. Harlequin has since published over a dozen of her novels, mainly in the SuperRomance category.cite web | last = | first = | coauthors = | title = Laura Abbot | work= | pages = | language = | publisher = eHarlequin.Com | date = | url =http://www.eharlequin.com/author.html;jsessionid=EF81251D97F18832F2522B4546F5722A?authorid=651 | accessdate = 2007-04-10] Her novel, "My Name is Nell" was nominated for a "Romantic Times Magazine" award for Best Harlequin SuperRomance in 2003.cite web | last = | first = | coauthors = | title = Romantic Times 2003 Reviewers' Choice Award Nominees | work= | pages = | language = | publisher = Romantic Times Magazine | date = 2003 | url =http://www.romantictimes.com/books_awards.php?type=book&level=1&year=2003 | accessdate = 2007-04-10]
