A descendant ofNearco , she was sired byEpsom Derby winnerSir Ivor and out of the mare Astuce by the important French sire,Vieux Manoir who in turn was a son of the great French runnerBrantome . The colt was named for the town ofIvanjica in theMoravica District ofSerbia .Trained by
Alec Head , and ridden by his son Freddy, Ivanjica had outstanding campaigns in 1975 and 1976. After finishing third to Youth in the 1976Washington, D.C. International , Ivanjica capped off her career by giving ownerJacques Wertheimer the first of his twoPrix de l'Arc de Triomphe wins.Retired to broodmare service, her offspring had limited success in racing.
