Media entrepreneur Cathy Areu is the creator, owner, and publisher of Catalina magazine, a multi-platform media company "for the mind, body, and soul of today's Latina." Founded in 2001, CATALINA was created by Cathy Areu to portray a positive image of U.S. Hispanic women in media and entertainment. By 2005, CATALINA magazine reached a national audited circulation of 500,000, becoming one of the largest Hispanic publications in the U.S. Many famous Latinas have graced the cover of CATALINA including Actress Judy Reyes, Maria Conchita Alonso, Constance Marie, Judge Marilyn Milian, and Supermodel Daisy Fuentes. Cathy also founded CATALINA's annual "Essence of Latinas" national tour, the annual "Groundbreaking Latinas" award show, the CATALINA online book club, and CATALINA TV.

In addition to CATALINA, Cathy Areu has been a contributing editor for The Washington Post Magazine since 2000, profiling the most famous political figures in U.S. politics, from Speaker Nancy Pelosi to First Lady Laura Bush. Cathy is also the author of the non-fiction inspirational book "Latino Wisdom".

Cathy Areu has been quoted and featured by award-winning media outlets including: "Entrepreneur" magazine, The Washington Post, UPI, the Associated Press, Univision, Telemundo, KTLA, CNBC, NPR, NBC, and CNN.

Education

Cathy received her B.A. in English Literature from Florida State University. Cathy received her M.S. in English Education from Nova Southeastern University, attended graduate courses at Mercer University, and Dutch courses at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands.
