Ismail Fatah Al-Turk "Ismail Fatah" (1934-2004) was an Iraqi painter and sculptor from
Basra ,Iraq .He received degrees in painting and sculpture from
Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts and a degree in sculpture from theAcademy of Fine Arts inRome .Held six exhibition for sculpture and five exhibitions for paintings in Rome, Baghdad and Beirut.
Winner of first prize of
Arab artists inItaly .Member of
Baghdad group (1957) and Al-Zawia group.Teacher of sculpture in the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts.
Fatah is also known for bronze statues of
Marouf Al-Rasafi , an Iraqi nationalist poet of the 1940s, of theAbbasid poetAbu Nuwas , and of Abbasid painterAl Wasety .Designed and executed several monuments and statues in Baghdad, the most famous of which is the turquoise blue split dome of the
Al-Shaheed Monument (Martyrs' Monument), completed in 1983.While living and working in
Quatar , Fatah contracted cancer. He returned toBaghdad where he died 21 July 2004.External links
