Yelena Dmitrievna Polenova ( _ru. Елена Дмитриевна Поленова;
27 November 1850 Saint Petersburg -19 November 1898 Moscow ) was aRussia n painter and designer, sister ofVasily Polenov . She studied underPavel Chistyakov from 1859 to 1870. In 1864 she studied underIvan Kramskoi inSt Petersburg , and from 1869 to 1870 in the studio of Charles Chaplin inParis .By the 1870s Polenova was working primarily in watercolour. Her landscape watercolours were shown first in 1882 in exhibitions in St Petersburg and
Moscow , where they met with public success and were noticed by the criticVladimir Stasov . In the early 1880s Polenova moved to Moscow, where she associated closely with the family ofSavva Mamontov and began to play a prominent role in the activities of theAbramtsevo circle. In 1885 Polenova and Yelizaveta Mamontova organized a carpentry and wood-carving studio at Abramtsevo. Polenova was closely involved in the development of this national Romantic version ofArt Nouveau within the Abramtsevo circle.Works
