Charles S. Johnson played American football for the University of Colorado Buffaloes. He was the backup quarterback (behind Darian Hagan) in the 1989 and 1990 seasons.
Johnson is noted for his pivotal role in the infamous Fifth Down game at Missouri on October 6 1990. He is the player who ran for the decisive touchdown on fifth down, which was the last play of the game.
At the end of the 1990 season, Colorado played in the Orange Bowl game on January 1 1991, defeating Notre Dame University by a score of 10-9, which propelled Colorado to a controversial share of the mythical national championship of Division I-A college football for 1990. Johnson was named MVP of the 1991 Orange Bowl.
As of February 2007, Johnson is an Assistant Athletic Director at the University of Colorado. He is also a color commentator on radio broadcasts of University of Colorado men's basketball games.
