Lagoa, Cape Verde

Lagoa (Portuguese meaning the lagoon, also in the Capeverdean Crioulo forms of ALUPEC or ALUPEK and the São Vicente Crioulo) is a settlement in the island of Maio in Cape Verde. The village is around 5 km from the island capital of Vila do Maio.

Geography

The village is located in the western part of the island and is situated in a dry climate and it receives little precipitation annually. Farmlands are the island's most common and are mainly of cattle, groves and some fruits and vegetables and rarely some fruit productions and are around the area and into the hills, some foodstuffs are received from the northern and the southern parts of the nation as well as the island. The area are flat while the mountains dominate eastward, the salty lagoon is near the settlement. Its soil color ranges from tan to red.
