Sheridan High School (Sheridan, Indiana) has had notable success in football, their team called the Blackhawks, in recent years, winning Class 1A Indiana state championships in 1980, 1984, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1998, 2005, 2006, and 2007 under coach Larry "Bud" Wright, an Indiana high school Hall of Fame Coach. You can obviously tell that The Blackhawks know they will win another State Champonship because on the Sheridan Water Tower recently built in 2007, it shows all the years won, and 07 has a comma after it. The 2007 win marked the program's ninth state championship — tying a state record shared by Class 3A Bishop Chatard High School of Indianapolis. For years, the key has been a strong offensive running game lead by fundamentally strong line and running game. Blackhawks running attack has been an anchor to the impressive ground attack. Speed and strength in the backfield has traditionally led to a 1-2 punch for the explosive Hawk offense. This coupled with quickness and speed on defense creates a program similar to those in Texas.
In the 1940s and 50's, Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame coach Larry Hobbs led Sheridan teams to remarkable successes.
The Sheridan High School Blackhawk Marching Band competed in ISSMA Class D competitions. The program flourished under the directorship of James Tewell and later Jay Webb. The band made it to State Finals in 1988, 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1996. They won the ISSMA Class D State Championship in 1995.
The Sheridan High School Blackhawk Winter Guard competed in IHSCGA competitions, and made it to State Finals in 1994, 1996, and 1997. In 1996 the girls brought home the third place bronze medal in the IHSCG State Finals. In 1996 and 1997 The Winter Guard competed in WGI regional competitions in Ohio and Tennessee representing the High School and the state of Indiana.
