OMRDD

The Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD) is an independent agency in the state of New York, whose mission is to provide services and conduct research for those with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. This agency was renamed in July of 2010 to the Office for Persons With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Severe budget cuts have resulted in situations in which OPWDD direct care employees are often short-staffed and are therefore subjected to a dangerous work environment. This situation can be particularly dangerous when staff is mandated to work a "triple", 24 hours straight.
