Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the east clockwise) Wat Sing and Hankha of Chainat Province, Ban Rai, Huai Khot, Nong Chang and Nong Khayang of Uthai Thani Province.

History

The minor district ("King Amphoe") was established on July 15 1996 with four "tambon" split off from Wat Sing district [cite journal|journal=Royal Gazette|volume=113|issue=Special 18 ง|pages=25|title=ประกาศกระทรวงมหาดไทย เรื่อง แบ่งเขตท้องที่อำเภออำเภอวัดสิงห์ จังหวัดชัยนาท ตั้งเป็นกิ่งอำเภอหนองมะโมง|url=http://www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/DATA/PDF/2539/E/018/25.PDF|date=June 26 1996|language=Thai] .

Following a decision of the Thai government on May 15 2007, all of the 81 minor districts were to be upgraded to full districts [cite news|url=http://www.manager.co.th/Politics/ViewNews.aspx?NewsID=9500000055625|publisher=Manager Online|title=แถลงผลการประชุม ครม. ประจำวันที่ 15 พ.ค. 2550|language=Thai] . With the publishing in the Royal Gazette on August 24 the upgrade became official [cite journal|journal=Royal Gazette|volume=124|issue=46 ก|pages=14–21|title=พระราชกฤษฎีกาตั้งอำเภอฆ้องชัย...และอำเภอเหล่าเสือโก้ก พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๐|url=http://www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/DATA/PDF/2550/A/046/14.PDF|date=August 24 2007|language=Thai] .

Administration

The district is subdivided into 4 subdistricts ("tambon"), which are further subdivided into 42 villages ("muban"). There are no municipal ("thesaban") areas, and further 4 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
