Leuren Moret

Leuren Moret is a former scientific laboratory employee who has become known for her claims of adverse health and environmental effects of depleted uranium. Moret has worked for short periods at two U.S. nuclear weapons laboratories, incuding 10 months at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She has claimed the status of a "whistle blower" in connection with her work a Lawrence Livermore, although the details are not clear.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Geology at University of California, Davis in 1968, and her Master of Arts in Near Eastern Studies from University of California, Berkeley in 1978.

Ms. Moret is a harsh critic of the US use of depleted uranium. She has contributed to the United Nations subcommission investigating depleted uranium. She researched, in a library sense, the environmental and public health effects of low level radiation from atmospheric testing fallout, nuclear power plants, and depleted uranium weaponry. In 2003, she testified at the International Criminal Tribunal for Afghanistan held in Japan. Although Ms. Moret claims to be a scientific expert on depleted uranium, there is no evidence that this is true other than her own comments. Her views are greatly at odds with the mainstream scientific opinion on depleted uranium, which is that it can be considered dangerous only in very rare situations. Ms Moret on the other hand, claims that hundreds of medical conditions are caused by exposure to depleted uranium.

Critics of Ms. Moret charge that she exaggerates the risks from depleted uranium and often misrepresents various studies on the subject. Ms. Moret's views are usually in sharp conflict with the views of experts on the subject. The Health Physics Society has an "Ask the Experts" resource on their web site that addresses the issue of depleted uranium. Ms. Moret claims that she has been harassed by various organizations including the local police department because of her views on depleted uranium.

She was a presenter at the World Depleted Uranium Weapons Conference in Hamburg, Germany, and at the World Court of Women at the World Social Forum in Bombay, India in January 2004. She is a Contributing Editor to GLOBAL OUTLOOK, Environmental Commissioner for City of Berkeley, and a former president of the Association for Women Geoscientists.

She furthermore claims in the [http://www.physicsforums.com/archive/index.php/t-59075.html Physics Forum blog] that the use of depleted uranium "is part of the eugenics plan developed under Jimmy Carter by Kissinger, Brzezinski, Haig and Ed Muskie to depopulate the world by 2-3 billion in 1979." as planned in The Global 2000 Report to the President.
