- Sunil Grover
Sunil Grover is an
India n stand-up comedian who currently hosts the show,Kaun Banega Champu onFilmy and nowKya Aap Paanchvi Fail Champu Hai? onFilmy Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM presents Hasi Ke Phuvare with Sudarshan Please call me Sud Okay…Sud C'mon baby, chill! If you are an avid radio listener, chances are you have heard Sudarshan aka Sud on Radio Mirchi reading out jokes from his book Hasi Ke Phuvare. Sud's (who fuels many chats in college canteens) candid remarks leaves listeners in splits, at times amused and sometimes even irritated. And the man behind that character is voiceover artist Sunil Grover who came to Mumbai almost eight years ago. "My story is the same as everyone else's," he shrugs. He plays the character of Lallan on the show "Challa Lallan Hero Banane" on the movie channel Filmy. He has also worked in quite a few movies. He also hosts a special series on
Radio Mirchi - Daily called "Hassey Ke Phuarey" where he plays the character of a deadpan 'Sudarshan' aka SUD and tells stupid jokes in a very funny way. He has won the RAPA Award for outstanding voice-over performance of Sud on Radio Mirchi.Sunil's first year in Mumbai was spent dabbling in theatre and other small time assignments. "Then, I got into voiceover. Work started coming in bits and pieces and there was no looking back," says Sunil. Speaking of Sud, Sunil feels it's the "simplicity and naivety" of the character that makes him click with the listeners. "It's a character who thinks he knows but in reality, he doesn't. That's what makes him adorable. In fact, when I am Sud, I consciously try not to be funny or witty and it works. People laugh at the most mundane things he says," explains Sunil. Interestingly, he claims to derive this wannabe yet naïve facet from his own life, particularly his journey from his home town Mandibadwali to Mumbai. "When I shifted to Chandigarh, I was nothing but a Sud amidst the campus crowd. After getting accustomed there, I again shifted, this time to Mumbai and yet again, I was a Sud in the urban atmosphere," he recounts. Today, Sud's fan following leaves Sunil surprised. Messages like 'Sud, you are so cute' and 'Sud, I want to marry you' are quite common. "Strangely, in spite of the weird jokes he reads out and the comments that follow, girls seem to like him more than guys," laughs Sunil. However, as Sud enjoys his moments of fame on air, he also keeps Sunil under anonymity. But that's also what adds to the fun. As Sunil puts it, "I often come across people discussing Sud. Many-a-times, I just stand there and listen to what they say. In public, nobody knows I am Sud. But that doesn't stop me from bragging, right? I can always go up to anyone and say 'Hey! I am Sud!'"He is currently hosting a show called Kya Aap Panchvi Fail Champu Hai on Sahara Filmy, which is a parody of Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai.A voice over artiste, both for TV and Radio.
