Jake Semple is a fictional character from the book Surviving the Applewhites. He is described as having scarlet hair, which he wears in spikes, although his original hair color is brown. He wears all black clothing. He is also a very good singer, gaining the part of Rolf in the production The Sound of Music. While at first he enjoys being typecast as a "bad kid" by people, he begins to long to break free of the stereotype. He is very kind to Destiny, a four year old child, as well as Winston, the lovable basset hound. Although he is friends with Destiny, the tyke annoys him to no end. In one part of the book, Destiny emulates Jake's red hair by dying his own hair purple with Kool-Aid because he's been told that purple color doesn't go off.
